The Award Season Continues
March 19, 2010
I couldn’t be more proud of my seven year old son this morning. His film that he made for the National PTA’s “Reflections” Art program, was just honored at an Awards banquet last night. We knew he had received a First place Award of Excellence at his school three months ago, which gave him the privelege of competing in his school’s region. The region includes all of the elementary schools in Santa Clarita and we found out about a month ago he had received the first place Award of Excellence at that level. Well last night they announced the results of the District which includes schools from many areas of Southern California and parts of Northern California (hope you’re following all this, because I’m a little lost). He again won the first place Award of Excellence for the District. His film then went on to compete at the State level against 29 other District winners. At the end of the evening they announced that his film won the Award of Merit at the state level, which is effectively the runner-up. He won’t go on to compete at the National level, but for a seven year-old on his first ever narrative film, I was pretty impressed. Congratulations Andrew, your hard work paid shows and I can’t wait to watch your next film! The first film by Andrew Sutherland. This is a submission for the National Elementary School Reflections Program. The theme is Beauty is… and Andrew told us he thinks Beauty is the Battlefields of the Revolutionary War. He has a strong interest for the Revolutionary War and the Civil War so we looked at many pictures of battlefields and art that depicts these battles. The neatest thing about this project is that Andrew did it all himself. He’s lucky that his dad has a nice computer and Final Cut Pro to edit on, but the ideas, the script and the editing were all his, even down to the song which he sang two years ago in school. He wanted to make this film in honor of the soldiers who fought on these battlefields and brought freedom to all of us.
